Author study collection: these authors have been chosen for their rich and varied body of work, recognition through major awards and for their appeal to readers of differing ages and abilities.

Former teacher, Linda Newbery is one of the most highly regarded contemporary writers for children. She has written for all ages including picture book texts and young adult novels. In 2006 she was awarded the prestigious Costa Award Children’s Book of the Year for her novel ‘Set in Stone’. In 2010 she was awarded an IBBY Honour Award (International Board on Books for Young People) for ‘The Sandfather’. Her novels for upper juniors include ‘Catcall’, ‘The Treasure House’ and ‘At the Firefly Gate’. And for younger juniors her animal stories in the ‘Cat Tales’ and ‘Barney’ series are popular. Recurring themes in Linda’s books are mystery, family, secrets, history, animals and old houses.

The range of Linda's writing makes her a good choice for significant author study for all year groups in KS2, with each year group reading a different book.
