About the Book: Pattan’s Pumpkin is based on a Indian flood story which follows a structure similar to Noah’s Ark. Pattan leads a happy life on the banks of the river with his wife Kanni. One day he discovers an ailing plant which he decides to nurture. Over time a pumpkin grows; it grows bigger and bigger until it is larger than the elephants. One night a great storm rages and Pattan decides to escape the floods by sheltering inside the enormous pumpkin. He takes two of every animal and one of every seed, grain and sapling with him to ensure human, animal and plant life survives the flood.
