About the Book
This beautiful, shimmering book illustrates the water cycle by following a jar of water across the globe, carefully chronicling all it encounters. Caught in a rain shower, Issac pours his jar of water into a little pool. So begins a journey that will take us downstream to join a river, through green countryside and busy cityscape, out into open sea, and then back up into the sky as a cloud, ready to fall on a more arid land. Not ending here, this rain runs back to the sea again, only to rise once more to the clouds and fall again on Issac as he plays.
Reasons for Selection
This narrative nonfiction book tackles its subject in an unusual way. The language is highly descriptive and the sentence structure is complex, giving teachers a lot to work with. Information is imparted through both words and illustrations, and the subject of the water cycle and physical geography leads to excellent cross curricular links. There is a strong use of colour throughout.
