Just Imagine

Wolf, the Duck and the Mouse, The by Mac Barnett (group set, 7 books)

About the book: The story begins early one morning when a mouse is eaten by a wolf. However, this is not the end of the mouse as he discovers a duck already living (rather luxuriously) in the belly of the wolf. Life is good for the friends until a hunter enters the forest and threatens to destroy their happy home. Drastic action must be taken to save their home.

Reasons for selection: The absurd and hilarious nature of the story holds great appeal for readers of all ages. However, this book goes beyond superficial engagement as the humour offers intellectual challenge too. Sophisticated concepts can be explored such as whether it is better to live in safety even if this limits your experiences.
